Water bottle washing and care tips
Stainless steel water bottles are a great choice compared to plastic bottles which can leach toxins into your drink. It's a common misconception that stainless steel will never rust. In certain circumstances areas of rust can develop.
High grade stainless steel with high chromium content such as 304 grade steel (also called 18/8 stainless steel), used for Evanescent Visions water bottles, has good resistance to corrosion. However without proper care rust spots or a patina may occur, especially with exposure to salty or acid liquids or the lack of proper cleaning and drying.
Here are some maintenance tips to help prevent that and maintain your water bottle in good condition:
- Ensure the bottle is hand washed daily and thoroughly after use with mild washing up liquid and clean warm water. Avoid harsh abrasives or cleaning implements when cleaning that might damage the inner surface. Residual acids and sugars from some liquids (for example citric juices or cola which can be corrosive) can cause rust to develop if left for extended periods in the bottle.
- Dry the bottle thoroughly with a clean dish towel or allow to air dry. Ensure the bottle is completely dry before sealing and storing (store preferably with the lid off).
- Inspect periodically for signs of corrosion or damage.
